Lucknow, Nov 3 The sugarcane crushing season 2026-27 has formally commenced in Uttar Pradesh, with nine sugar mills starting operations, while 33 mills have issued indents for procuring sugarcane, according to an official statement issued on Tuesday.
According to the Sugarcane Development Department, the nine mills that have started crushing include one cooperative-sector mill and eight private-sector mills.
Of these, three mills are in the Saharanpur zone, one in the Meerut zone, two in the Moradabad zone and three in the Lucknow zone.
The department said other sugar mills in the state had completed the necessary formalities to commence crushing operations.
Of the 33 mills that have issued indents for sugarcane procurement, 24 are scheduled to begin operations before Diwali, and the remaining mills will start their crushing season after the festival.
The department has directed all sugar mills to complete the necessary arrangements at their respective allocated sugarcane procurement centres immediately and ensure that operations commence on schedule, the statement said.
