Thiruvananthapuram, Nov 3 CPI(M) state secretary M V Govindan on Tuesday lodged a complaint with the state police chief seeking legal action against two online platforms for allegedly circulating fabricated posts in his name.

In his complaint, Govindan named the Facebook page ‘Celispot Media’ and the YouTube channel ‘RK Media Vlogs’ for publishing posts carrying his photograph and a fabricated headline claiming that the CPI(M) leadership had sought an explanation from the Centre over an Indian Army attack on Chinese troops.

He alleged that the platforms had deliberately created and circulated false news in his name, according to a statement issued by the CPI (M).

Govindan sought registration of a case under Sections 197(1)(d) and 356 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), alleging that the posts amounted to “spreading misinformation” concerning national security.

Screenshots and links to the alleged posts were also submitted to the police along with the complaint, the statement added.

The fresh complaint came a day after Govindan lodged a complaint with the police seeking legal action against those who allegedly created and circulated fake social media posts in his name targeting a student who led a protest at Maharaja’s College in Ernakulam.
