Jammu, Nov 3 Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Reasi Mukund Tibrewal on Tuesday visited police formations in the mountainous areas of the district to review security arrangements and operational preparedness, stressing the need for better coordination among the police, Special Operations Group (SOG) and Village Defence Guard (VDG) members.

Accompanied by Additional SP Iftikhar Ahmed and other police officers, Tibrewal visited Police Post Dewal and the SOG camp at Gulabgarh in Mahore. He also held a public outreach and grievance redressal programme under Thana Diwas at Dewal, officials said.

During the security review, the SSP interacted with police personnel and enquired about their welfare, working conditions and operational challenges arising from deployment in the difficult terrain.

He also inspected the arms and ammunition held by the personnel and stressed the need for operational readiness, proper maintenance of weapons and equipment, alertness and discipline, officials said.

Tibrewal interacted with VDG members and appreciated their contribution to maintaining peace and security in remote and vulnerable areas. He urged them to remain vigilant, coordinate closely with the local police and promptly report any suspicious movement or activity.

Some VDG members were also rewarded for their contribution to strengthening the local security mechanism.

The SSP stressed the need for regular coordination among the police, SOG and VDG members and periodic reviews of security arrangements, particularly in view of the area’s difficult terrain and geographical remoteness.

During the public outreach programme, residents raised several issues, including the construction of a dedicated building for Police Post Dewal, organising sports tournaments in the area and expediting character verification.

Tibrewal assured them that matters concerning the Police Department would be taken up on priority, while issues related to other departments would be pursued with the respective authorities, officials said.

The programme gave residents of the far-flung area an opportunity to raise their concerns directly with senior police officers without travelling to the district headquarters.
