Thane, Nov 3 Shiv Sena corporator and former Mayor Meenakshi Shinde on Tuesday alleged that opposition leaders had conspired to defame Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and derail the investigation into the Pradeep Purnekar murder case.
The Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and Purnekar’s family have accused Meenakshi and her husband Rajendra Shinde of being the masterminds of the September 29 murder of local Sena (UBT) functionary Pradeep Purnekar. The couple has denied the allegations.
Addressing a press conference after meeting Thane Police Commissioner Ashutosh Dumbre, Meenakshi Shinde claimed that the opposition was running a malicious campaign to drag Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Shiv Sena chief and deputy CM Eknath Shinde, and herself into the controversy.
She also submitted a letter to the Police Commissioner demanding security for the Purnekar family and their close associates.
