Jaipur, Nov 3 Former Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot on Tuesday targeted the BJP government over the alleged lack of functional public toilets for women in Jaipur’s major markets, accusing it of failing to implement successive budget announcements.
In a post on X, Gehlot said the government had announced 67 pink toilet complexes at a cost of around Rs 14 crore in the 2024-25 budget, followed by 500 pink toilets with an allocation of Rs 175 crore in 2025-26.
However, the 2026-27 budget made no mention of pink toilets and instead announced 300 mobile toilets, he said.
Gehlot claimed that more than two lakh women visit Johari Bazaar, Chandpole and Kishanpole markets daily, but only one or two usable toilets are available.
He alleged that two of the three existing toilets were locked, while the key to a toilet in Kishanpole was kept with a paan vendor.
Citing the demand for such facilities, Gehlot said 570 women used temporary cabin toilets within seven hours of their installation.
“Three budgets, three announcements and zero results in the markets,” he said, criticising the government.
The Congress leader accused the BJP government of prioritising publicity over implementation and demanded to know when the promised toilet facilities would be completed.
