Andhra Pradesh, Nov 3: Police have registered a case against YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) president and former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, MP YS Avinash Reddy, and more than 70 party supporters over a protest held in Pulivendula against alleged irregularities during the municipal elections.

The case was registered at the Pulivendula Urban Police Station following a complaint by a person named Rafiq. Police accused the YSRCP leaders and supporters of violating the election Model Code of Conduct by staging a protest without prior permission on November 1 at the Pulivendula Municipal Office premises.

The case comes after YS Jagan staged a peaceful protest against alleged election malpractice, the ruling coalition’s interference, and the failure of officials, particularly the police, to ensure a fair polling process.

On Sunday, Jagan, accompanied by more than 70 YSRCP polling agents, submitted a written complaint to the Pulivendula Municipal Returning Officer. He alleged that ruling party leaders had resorted to undemocratic practices and that officials had failed to prevent irregularities during polling.

Demanding justice for affected voters and candidates, Jagan urged the Election Commission to cancel the polling conducted at all 80 polling booths in Pulivendula and order fresh elections.

As part of the protest, Jagan and the YSRCP polling agents staged a sit-in outside the Returning Officer’s office. He also spoke with Returning Officer Srinivas and RDO Chinnaiah, questioning them over allegations that YSRCP polling agents had been prevented from performing their election duties.

Jagan demanded accountability from election officials and sought immediate action against those responsible for the alleged irregularities.

However, the police case against Jagan, MP Avinash Reddy, and more than 70 supporters has triggered fresh political criticism from the YSRCP, which has accused the coalition government of using police cases as a tool to target opposition leaders.

The party has questioned the government’s commitment to democratic values, arguing that action is being taken against those who raised concerns over alleged election malpractice rather than those accused of disrupting the electoral process.
