Aizawl, Nov 2 The BJP Mizoram unit on Monday accused successive governments in the state of failing to deliver on their development promises and said Mizoram needed a government capable of making it self-reliant in key sectors, including food production, power, healthcare and infrastructure.
Addressing a political session at the party office here, BJP state president and MLA K Beichhua questioned the achievements of successive governments since Mizoram was a Union Territory.
He specifically cited flagship programmes such as the New Economic Development Policy (NEDP), New Land Use Policy (NLUP), both introduced by Congress, Mizoram National Front (MNF)’s Socio-Economic Development Policy (SEDP) and Hand Holding Policy of the ruling Zoram People’s Movement (ZPM), alleging that none had succeeded in making the state economically self-sufficient.
Beichhua said Mizoram needed a government that could translate promises into action rather than rely on slogans and election manifestos.
He identified self-sufficiency in food and essential commodities, electricity and drinking water, improved healthcare facilities, better roads and accessible public services as key priorities.
He said the state should develop healthcare infrastructure to such an extent that people would no longer need to travel outside Mizoram for treatment.
Claiming that the BJP was capable of delivering on these aspirations, he said the party had the ability to govern a small state like Mizoram effectively.
He also rejected allegations that the BJP was a threat to Christians or incompatible with Christianity, asserting that no BJP leader or member had converted from Christianity to Hinduism.
He appealed to churches and members of the Congress to examine the BJP’s position and join the party in working for the state’s development.
