Bengaluru, Oct 31 Karnataka Governor Sudha Yadav on Saturday greeted the people of the state on the occasion of Kannada Rajyotsava and called for preserving its rich heritage and promoting Kannada pride.

Kannada Rajyotsava is celebrated on November 1 every year.

“On this occasion, we gratefully remember the vision, dedication and sacrifices of all the great leaders, visionaries and common people who have worked for the development of Karnataka. It is an occasion to remember our roots and honour the achievements of our state,” she said in her message, according to a statement issued by the Governor’s office.

Yadav highlighted Karnataka’s significant contribution to the country’s development, describing it as a land of glorious history, rich cultural heritage and diverse traditions.

Its legacy of knowledge, art, literature, spirituality and social reform has made a significant contribution to India’s civilisational heritage, she said.

“Karnataka is recognised as a premier hub for technology and a leading centre for education, science, innovation, aerospace, industries and entrepreneurship. Our state continues to contribute significantly to the nation’s progress. I feel privileged to be associated with this great state and to experience the warmth, generosity and affection of its people,” Yadav said.

Calling upon people to work together for the state’s progress, she said, “My dear people of Karnataka, on this historic occasion, let us reaffirm our commitment to building a developed, inclusive and prosperous Karnataka. Let us preserve our invaluable heritage, encourage innovation, empower our youth and ensure that the benefits of development reach every section of society.”

Mysore state was renamed Karnataka on November 1, 1973, 17 years after the 1956 reorganisation of states. The change followed a long campaign by activists and politicians, and was formalised by the D Devaraj Urs-led government.
