Varanasi (UP), Oct 26 Prime Minister Narendra Modi has credited the Yogi Adityanath-led Uttar Pradesh government with creating a safe environment for women in the state.
This came during Modi’s interaction with women workers of Arvind Limited, a garment manufacturing unit, here on Sunday, when an employee spoke about growing confidence among rural families in sending their daughters for work.
The woman, Khushboo Kumari from Varanasi, told Modi that the company had not only provided employment opportunities but also changed the mindset of village folk, who now have better awareness about employment opportunities for women and are encouraging their daughters to step out of their homes for work.
Citing security arrangements at her workplace, she thanked the prime minister.
Modi interrupted her and gestured towards Adityanath, “Tho Yogi ji ko thank you bolo” (Then thank Yogi ji).
The prime minister interacted with around 300 women employees at the facility and enquired about their work experiences and the facilities provided to them.
Several women said their jobs are helping them become financially independent while also providing them with new skills.
Arvind Limited Vice-Chairman Puneet Lalbhai said the new facility would not only generate employment locally, but also boost economic activities linked to supply chains, transportation and other services.
The unit, established over 5.5 acres with an investment of around Rs 150 crore, is expected to provide employment to more than 1,000 people, a majority of whom will be women.
The company has also set up a hostel facility for employees. The facility is expected to boost employment, skill development and local businesses in Varanasi and the Purvanchal region.
