Baghpat (UP), Oct 20 Two minor sisters, aged seven and four, were killed on Tuesday after being hit by a truck on the Delhi-Saharanpur highway in Baghpat district, police said.
The incident occurred near Pali village when the sisters, identified as Nabia (7) and Alina (4), were crossing the road after collecting ‘prasad’ from a community feast organised at a petrol pump in the village.
Additional Superintendent of Police Praveen Chauhan said the two girls were hit by a truck coming from the Delhi side.
They sustained serious injuries and were taken to the district hospital, where doctors declared them dead. The police have seized the truck, he said.
The girls’ uncle, Arshad, said the sisters were returning home with ‘prasad’ from the feast when the truck ran over them.
Locals took the injured children to the district hospital on a motorcycle, he added.
The incident triggered grief in the family of their father, Taleem, who works as a labourer at a brick kiln in Kandhla.
Police have sent the bodies for post-mortem examination and initiated further legal proceedings in the case.
