Rourkela, Oct 26 Two truck drivers were charred to death after their trailers collided head-on in Odisha’s Sundargarh district on Monday, police said.

The accident happened at Anlabahal square in the Lefripara police station area, when one trailer was returning after unloading coal, and the other was heading to a mining site to load the mineral, officials said.

The collision triggered a fire, suspected to have originated in a urea tank following the impact, which quickly engulfed both vehicles, they said.

The drivers, identified as Mantu Yadav from Jharkhand and Chandan Yadav from Bihar, could not escape their cabins and were burnt alive, police said.

Another truck driver tried to rescue them but failed due to the intensity of the blaze, they said.

An investigation into the incident is underway, they added.
