Hyderabad, Oct 24 The TGHRC has sought a detailed report from the Sangareddy District Collector over the death of two workers following a suspected chloroform leak at a pharmaceutical manufacturing unit.

The Telangana Human Rights Commission (TGHRC), headed by Chairperson Shameem Akther, took cognisance of media reports about the incident that occurred in Jinnaram mandal on October 22 night. While two workers died, six others fell ill and were hospitalised due to the suspected chloroform leak.

Noting that the incident raises serious concerns regarding industrial safety and the right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution, the Commission called for a detailed report from the Sangareddy District Collector on the circumstances of the incident, details of the deceased and injured workers, medical assistance provided, safety measures and action taken by the authorities, by November 26, an official release said.

The police earlier said two employees–a chemist and a supervisor fell unconscious after inhaling chloroform leaked from a pipeline and were shifted to a hospital where they were declared brought dead.

Six other workers were also hospitalised and out of them three are still undergoing treatment, a police official said on Saturday.

A case was registered against the management of the pharma company in connection with the incident, the official added.
