Pune, Oct 19 NCP (SP) leader Supriya Sule on Monday criticised the Maharashtra government over its aid for drought-hit farmers and said they must get compensation of Rs 1 lakh per hectare.
Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on October 14 that an initial relief of Rs 5,000 will be deposited directly into farmers’ bank accounts ahead of Diwali, a move that comes after 85 per cent of talukas in Maharashtra were declared drought-hit.
“The aid announced by the state government for farmers is not enough, that is the ground reality. By giving Rs 5,000 the state government is insulting farmers. The demand is Rs 1 lakh per hectare. Farmers have not received two instalments of Namo Krishi Sanman Scheme either,” she said at a press conference here.
Sule said NCP (SP) chief Sharad Pawar had written two letters to Fadnavis regarding the drought situation.
Asserting that NCP (SP) did not want to indulge in politics during drought, Sule said the letters contained suggestions to tackle the crisis. But the response is poor from the government, she claimed.
About the Maharashtra legislative council polls, the Baramati MP said all Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) partners were in touch and discussing various issues, including inflation, unemployment and agitations going on in the country.
She also slammed the Fadnavis government over law and order, the comment coming a day after the Tiger Shroff firing incident.
Citing a report from the Union Home Ministry on crime, she said, “The political, security and financial condition of the state is challenging. This is a double engine government and the report from the Home Ministry led by Amit Shah says crime has grown in Maharashtra. Pune is leading in the state (in crime) and fifth in the country.”
She also said slain leader Baba Siddique’s MLC son Zeeshan seeking fast-tracking of his father’s murder trial and security for his family raised questions on the safety of ordinary citizens.
“If this is the situation of an MLC from the ruling party, what about the common man,” she questioned.
