Mumbai, Oct 19 Central Railway on Monday said it has commissioned a third line between Khardi and Kasara railway stations in Thane district after receiving approval from the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS).
The 13.53 km long line between Khardi and Kasara was commissioned on Sunday after a challenging 12-hour traffic block, during which major track connections and Kasara Yard remodelling were completed, CR said in a statement.
“The CRS conducted an inspection of the line and commissioning followed. During the inspection, the CRS appreciated the excellent quality of construction, track and safety-related works. A successful speed trial was conducted at 117 kmph, and the new line was authorised for train operations at 100 kmph,” CR said.
The commissioning of the new line is a “major milestone” in the Kalyan-Kasara 3rd Line Project, it added.
“The newly commissioned line will significantly enhance railway capacity, reduce congestion, improve punctuality and facilitate smoother movement of passenger and freight trains on the important Mumbai-Kasara corridor after completion of the entire project,” CR said.
The project involved the construction of a new electrified railway line through challenging hilly terrain, the strengthening and extension of bridges, extensive earthwork, modern signalling and electrification, and improvements to the Khardi and Kasara railway yards, the release informed.
