New Delhi, Oct 20: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged all political parties to work together in the national interest and fulfil the aspirations of the people. His remarks come as the government seeks political support for the passage of the Women’s Reservation Bill linked to delimitation.

Speaking at Vijayadashami celebrations in New Delhi on Tuesday, Modi called on citizens to adopt a “Nation First” approach and stand united against forces that threaten the country’s progress, social harmony and cultural identity.

PM Modi Urges Political Parties to Work Together

Modi said all political parties and national institutions should work together to protect India’s interests. He stressed that forces that harm the country, divide society or disrespect Indian culture must be opposed collectively.

The prime minister also highlighted the importance of good governance, referring to the concept of Ram Rajya. He said it represents a system where everyone receives justice, discrimination is absent, and equal opportunities are available to all.

Drawing inspiration from Lord Ram, Modi said the government and political leaders should focus on public welfare and work towards fulfilling people’s aspirations.

Women’s Reservation Bill and Delimitation Debate

The prime minister’s appeal comes as the government continues its efforts to build consensus on the proposed Women’s Reservation Bill linked to delimitation.

The legislation seeks to provide 33 per cent reservation for women in the Lok Sabha and state legislative assemblies. The proposal also includes increasing the strength of the Lok Sabha from the existing 543 seats to a maximum of 815.

An earlier attempt to pass the Constitution Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha in April failed to secure the required two-thirds majority.

Union Minister Kiren Rijiju recently wrote to Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge, seeking the opposition party’s constructive participation in discussions on important legislation. Kharge had earlier urged the government to convene an all-party meeting before making another attempt to pass the constitutional amendment.

The government has not yet prorogued the Monsoon Session, which was adjourned sine die on August 13. This has fuelled speculation about the possibility of a special parliamentary session to discuss the proposed legislation.

Opposition Protests Over Electoral Roll Revision

Modi’s remarks also come amid opposition protests over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Opposition parties have raised concerns over alleged irregularities and demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.

The ruling BJP has alleged that the protests are being encouraged by foreign forces seeking to hinder India’s progress. These allegations form part of the ongoing political debate surrounding electoral reforms and the revision of voter lists.

PM Modi Highlights Self-Reliance and Cultural Heritage

During his Vijayadashami address, Modi said India must rely on its own resources, strengthen its capabilities and find solutions through hard work. He said Lord Ram’s life teaches people that challenges should not prevent them from moving forward.

The prime minister also highlighted the importance of preserving India’s cultural heritage. According to Modi, more than 650 ancient idols have been brought back to India over the past 12 years.

He said protecting the country’s heritage and identity is essential for strengthening national self-respect and promoting India’s cultural legacy on the global stage.

Message of Public Service on Vijayadashami

Modi said Vijayadashami represents the victory of truth and humanity over challenges. He urged citizens and political leaders to follow these values while working for the country’s development.

He also stressed that the welfare of poor and underprivileged communities must remain a priority. Referring to the principle of Nagarik Devo Bhava, he said citizens should be treated with respect and public service should guide governance.

The prime minister’s message comes at a time when the government is seeking broader political support for key legislative proposals, including women’s reservation and delimitation, while political parties remain divided over electoral and governance issues.
