New Delhi, Oct 26 The National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC) has received an award for best passenger services and satisfaction for the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor at the 19th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference and Expo 2026 held in Bhubaneswar, Odisha.
Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal presented the award to NCRTC Managing Director Shalabh Goel in the category of ‘Metro Rail with the Best Passenger Service and Satisfaction’.
NCRTC also won the first prize for the best exhibitor at the conference for the second consecutive year, according to the corporation.
Its exhibition showcased the evolution of the Delhi-Meerut Namo Bharat corridor, highlighting its modern infrastructure, advanced technology, multimodal integration and transit-oriented development initiatives, it said.
Since the phased commencement of operations in October 2023, the Namo Bharat corridor has recorded more than 4.8 crore passenger journeys and currently serves over 1.1 lakh commuters daily, according to the NCRTC. Its highest single-day ridership has crossed 1.68 lakh passengers.
Prime Minister Modi recently cited the corridor as an example of governance, commending the project for adhering to timelines and its operational speed of 160 kmph. He also praised the train’s punctuality rate of 99.9 per cent.
The NCRTC said the service has reduced travel time between Delhi, Ghaziabad and Meerut, with air-conditioned coaches, timely operations, modern stations and interchange facilities making regional journeys more convenient for commuters travelling for work, education and business.
Its integration with the metro, Indian Railways, interstate bus terminals and city buses has strengthened connectivity, while the introduction of Meerut Metro services on the same infrastructure has further improved regional transport links, it mentioned.
The NCRTC said the corridor is also influencing residential and commercial development around stations, with faster connectivity making employment and educational destinations more accessible. It has observed a shift in which some professionals working in Delhi are relocating to their hometowns in the National Capital Region (NCR).
