Bijnor (UP), Oct 26 A man has been arrested for allegedly carrying a sulphur-potash mixture in his bag, which caught fire inside a sleeper coach of the Shaheed Express in Uttar Pradesh’s Bijnor district, a Railway Protection Force (RPF) official said on Monday.
Deepak Kumar, a resident of Kushinagar, was arrested on Sunday after an RPF investigation found the mixture in his bag in the S-6 coach, RPF Dhampur outpost in-charge Chetan Kumar said.
The incident occurred on Friday night when the train, travelling from Amritsar to Jaynagar, was stopped after smoke was noticed in the sleeper coach. The fire was brought under control in time, preventing any major damage, the official said.
The RPF investigation found that friction involving the sulphur-potash mixture had caused the fire in the bag, he said.
No injuries were reported in the incident. The affected S-6 coach was evacuated as a precaution, and the train’s operations were briefly disrupted before the affected coach was replaced at Bareilly, railway officials had said earlier.
