Gurugram, Oct 16 An 18-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide using a country-made pistol in Kharkhari village under Sadar Tauru police station limits, police said on Friday.
Kharkhari is also the native village of slain criminal Shahid alias Advani, police said.
Rumours circulating on social media claimed that the girl died by suicide on Thursday night after learning about the police encounter in which Shahid was killed. However, police denied any connection between the girl and the slain criminal.
According to police, the girl’s father is lodged in jail in a criminal case. No suicide note was recovered, and the family has not blamed anyone for her death, a senior police officer said.
Shahid alias Advani, who was killed in a police encounter near Sohna in the early hours of Thursday, had 70 criminal cases registered against him in Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, according to Nuh police. His body was cremated in his ancestral village, Kharkhari, under Tauru Sadar police station limits on Thursday. Police have denied any connection between the girl’s death and the encounter.
A probe is underway, the officer added.
