Gurugram, Oct 16 A childless couple from a village in Uttar Pradesh went 250 km away to another state to allegedly carry out the kidnapping of a two-year-old child. Police, however, solved the case within days and rescued the child, officials said on Friday.
Two-year-old Prince went missing around 5 pm on October 9 from Ambedkar Nagar, Rangala village in Haryana’s Nuh district.
Police looked at CCTV footage, which showed a young man carrying the child on a motorcycle that lacked a number plate. An FIR was registered at Sadar Tauru police station based on the father’s complaint, which alleged that a young man who had moved into his building as a tenant a few days earlier could be the kidnapper.
With the help of around 60 CCTV footage and technical evidence, Nuh Police tracked the accused couple to Shahjahanpur in Uttar Pradesh. Police arrested the couple — Bablu Singh and his wife Rajkumari of Shahjadpur village — and safely recovered the child and handed him over to the family.
“During interrogation, the accused Bablu Singh revealed that his wife Rajkumari had no children, and the couple hatched a plan to kidnap a child. On October 6, the man arrived in Rangala with his wife under the pretext of looking for a room to rent,” said Abhimanyu Lohan, DSP, Nuh.
Bablu then left his wife in Bawal (Rewari) and returned to the building in question. On October 9, he took the child, Prince, and fled on his motorcycle, first to Bawal, and subsequently, along with his wife, to his own village, Shahjadpur in Uttar Pradesh.
“This case was challenging for the police because the child was only two years old, and the accused had taken him from Haryana to Uttar Pradesh. The police investigation was based on CCTV footage and other technical evidence. After an operation lasting about four days, the child was recovered safely and the accused couple was arrested,” the DSP said.
