Mumbai, Oct 20 Four persons were injured in a major fire that erupted in a godown storing scrap material at Sakinaka in Andheri area of Mumbai on Tuesday evening, officials said.

This is the third fire incident reported in the metropolis during the day, which is being celebrated as Dussehra.

The fire brigade received information about the blaze at the godown, located on Kairani Road, at 6.18 pm, the officials said.

It was a level-II fire, indicating a significant danger to the area, they said.

“Four persons, including a 20-year-old man, suffered burn injuries in the fire,” a civic official said.

However, the circumstances leading to their injuries could not be immediately known.

The victims suffered burn injuries ranging from 10 per cent to 80 per cent, and they were undergoing treatment at the civic-run Rajawadi Hospital.

Thick black smoke emanating from the fire was visible in the sky from afar, which triggered panic in the slum-dominated area.

The fire bridge personnel were trying to douse the fire and at least eight fire engines and other vehicles were engaged in the firefighting operation.

Fire brigade personnel, police, Adani Electricity staff, 108 ambulance and ward staff were mobilised to the spot, a civic official said.

Earlier in the day, a fire broke out in an electrical duct of a 13-storey residential building in Mumbai’s Kurla, leaving nine people, including three children, injured. Another fire erupted at Amarsons store, a prominent department store on Bhulabhai Desai Road in south Mumbai.

With the scrap godown fire, the total number of people injured in two of the three incidents reached 13.
