New Delhi, Oct 17 Authorities sealed eight factories, including five jeans dyeing units and three plastic granule manufacturing units, in northeast Delhi on Saturday and disconnected their electricity connections during a crackdown on polluting industrial activities, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi said.

The action happened in Sadatpur and Karawal Nagar in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD’s) Shahdara North zone, where a joint team of the civic body, BSES, and the Delhi Police inspected the industrial units, the civic body said.

The authorities sealed five jeans dyeing factories and three plastic granule manufacturing units and cut-off their power supply, it said. The crackdown comes amid the civic body’s efforts to curb polluting industrial activities in non-conforming areas.

MCD Commissioner Sanjeev Khirwar has directed all zonal deputy commissioners to identify such units and ensure action against those violating norms, a statement said.

Khirwar also told officials to fix accountability and ensure action within prescribed timelines, warning that negligence would not be tolerated, it added.

The MCD said it would continue inspections and enforcement drives in coordination with other agencies.
