Pratapgarh, Oct 17 A 40-year-old woman was allegedly killed by her husband following a dispute at their home in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh district on Saturday, police said.
The accused, Ajay Kumar Yadav, was taken into custody after he allegedly confessed to the crime during questioning, Additional Superintendent of Police (East) Alok Kumar said.
The incident took place in Pat Hatiya Kala village under the Phatanpur police station area.
According to police, Yadav initially claimed that masked men had entered the house to commit robbery and attacked his wife, Manju Devi, on the head with a heavy object, killing her.
However, police grew suspicious after he repeatedly changed his statements.
During questioning, he allegedly admitted to killing his wife, Kumar said.
The officer said Yadav was addicted to alcohol and the couple frequently quarrelled over the issue. During a dispute early Saturday, he allegedly struck Manju on the head with a heavy object, causing her death.
The woman’s body has been sent for postmortem examination. Further investigation is underway, police said.
