Ujjain (MP), Oct 20 Senior Congress leader Digvijaya Singh on Tuesday embarked on his ‘Satya Sanatan Swabhiman Yatra’, a journey on foot aimed at spreading the core ideals of the Sanatan culture, on the occasion of Vijayadashami.

Leading the procession is a group of seers and saints.

This ‘padyatra’, which began in Ujjain, will cover a distance of around 930 kilometers before reaching Ayodhya, which houses a grand temple of Lord Ram.

Before commencing the foot march, Singh, a former Madhya Pradesh chief minister, visited the Chintaman Ganesh temple here to offer prayers. Then he sought the blessings of Lord Mahakal at the Mahakaleshwar temple and also visited the Harsiddhi temple.

Before the official launch of the yatra at Balaji Garden near Narsingh Ghat, a ritual involving the creation and worship of countless “Parthiva Shiva Lingas” (sacred symbol of Lord Shiva made from clay) was conducted.

Ahead of the yatra, Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati, Shankaracharya of the Jyotish Peeth, and Swami Sadanand Saraswati, Shankaracharya of the Dwarka Sharda Peeth, issued letters expressing their support to the initiative, a release said.

Agnipithadhishwar Acharya Mahamandaleshwar Brahmarshi Ramkrishnanand has also extended his support to this journey.

During the yatra, Singh has decided to propagate the values of “Sanatan Dharma” — specifically truth and transparency — to people.

Ensuring transparency in the management of offerings and donations at religious sites, conducting impartial investigations into instances of misappropriation of funds, and ‘vote theft’ (electoral irregularities) will be some other issues that will be highlighted during the journey.
