Patna, Oct 20 JD(U) MLC Neeraj Kumar, who is seeking re-election in biennial polls to the Bihar Legislative Council scheduled later this week, has been admitted to a hospital following sudden illness, party sources said on Tuesday.

Kumar, 59, who is a heart patient, complained of uneasiness late Monday night when he was taken to the Medanta Hospital in the city, where his condition was said to be stable, the sources said.

The former minister seeks to retain, for the fourth consecutive term, the Patna Graduates seat, which is among eight constituencies that will go to polls on Friday.

An old loyalist of party supremo and former chief minister Nitish Kumar, the MLC faces a tough fight this time because of the open rebellion from Mokama MLA Anant Kumar Singh.

Despite being a JD(U) legislator, Singh has come out in support of Jan Suraaj Party candidate Anuj Singh, alleging that Neeraj Kumar had worked against him in last year’s assembly polls.

The don-turned-politician made light of the sudden illness of Neeraj Kumar when journalists sought his reaction on the MLC’s hospitalisation.

“Neeraj Kumar often goes to hospital for check-ups. There is nothing serious. In a couple of hours, he could be seen hitting the campaign trail again,” Singh said.

The Mokama MLA maintained, “I have no quarrels against anybody in the party. But I must ensure that Neeraj loses his election and forfeits his deposit. He has spewed a lot of venom against me just to attract publicity.
