New Delhi, Oct 22 The CAQM has summoned top officials of the Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) and the Municipal Corporation of Gurugram (MCG) for failing to adequately implement dust mitigation measures.
In a notice dated October 21, the commission asked the officials to appear before it on November 3 to explain the reasons for non-compliance.
“It is evident that despite aforesaid Direction(s)/Order(s) issued by the Commission, MCG and GMDA have not taken adequate actions to ensure complete mitigation of dust from roads and open areas,” the CAQM said in the notice, sent to GMDA’s chief executive officer and MCD’s commissioner.
It highlighted an inspection held on October 14 of dust mitigation measures implemented on 52 road stretches, covering more than 100 kilometres. The examination revealed 258 violations, including high visible dust on roads, accumulation of construction and demolition waste on roads/roadsides, damaged footpaths, and potholes.
The CAQM also pointed out public complaints received through social media regarding dust pollution in Gurugram. As of October 13, 1,135 complaints related to MCG and 183 complaints related to GMDA had been received.
“Failure to submit the requisite explanation/ status report and to appear before the Commission on the scheduled date and time, without sufficient cause, shall be viewed seriously,” said the CAQM.
