Kolkata, Oct 26 West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Monday slammed Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge for his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying the language used reflected the opposition’s frustration over repeated electoral defeats.

Kharge sparked a controversy with his statement, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega”, in response to an audience member who said the prime minister would not go anywhere.

The incident occurred during an event in Patna, where the Congress president addressed a programme organised to mark the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first chief minister, Shrikrishna Singh.

Speaking on the sidelines of a ‘Bijoya Sammilani’ programme hosted by the state government, Adhikari said the remarks were contrary to Indian culture.

“As these people keep losing elections, they have started using derogatory language. This is not the language of Mallikarjun Kharge; this is the language of Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi,” he said.

“In Indian culture, no one uses such language involving someone’s parents. This is not the language of Indian culture; this is the culture of Sonia Gandhi,” the Bengal chief minister added.

Asked to comment on Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra, Adhikari declined to make a direct remark, but accused her of making insulting comments about Goddess Kali, the Namasudra and Matua communities.

“I will not comment on… someone who insults Goddess Kali, who insults the Namasudra and Matua communities, and who insults the Tulsi mala (rosary with beads made from tulsi plant),” he said.
