Guwahati, Oct 24 Assam minister Jayanta Mallabaruah on Saturday interacted with 65 fellows of the Chief Minister’s Green Fellowship (CMGF) programme, who shared their international research experiences and insights into global best practices in environmental protection and pollution control.
The interaction was held as part of the state’s efforts to apply international expertise to local environmental challenges, the environment and forest minister told reporters.
“The fellowship programme is an initiative envisioned by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, with the primary objective of sending people associated with the environment sector to different parts of the world for internships lasting four to six weeks,” Mallabaruah said.
After returning to Assam, the fellows work towards applying the knowledge and experience gained abroad in the state, he said.
“The fellowship programme is opening new opportunities for young students from across Assam to gain international exposure, learn global best practices in environmental protection and bring that knowledge back to their communities,” the minister said.
Over the past two years, 82 students have benefited from the initiative, gaining research exposure and a deeper understanding of environmental sustainability and pollution control, he said.
“With 82 students benefiting from the programme so far, we look forward to strengthening the Chief Minister’s Green Task Force, which we launched today, and translating global learning into local action,” Mallabaruah added.
