Raipur, Oct 22 President Droupadi Murmu on Thursday hailed the end of armed Maoism in Chhattisgarh and said the areas once shrouded in the darkness of terror in the state have now been witnessing the light of development.

She expressed happiness over Chhattisgarh’s youth joining the national mainstream after breaking free from Naxalism, attributing this to their own steely determination and vigorous efforts of central and state governments in stamping out the decades-long menace.

The new era of peace has given a fillip to development of the state as well as the country, Murmu noted while addressing the ‘Seva Samman Parva’ and ‘Yuva Prabodhan’ event organised on the occasion of Nuakhai festival at Sardar Balbeer Singh Juneja Indoor Stadium in Raipur.

Referring to the end of the decades-long Maoist insurgency in Chhattisgarh, she said the areas once shrouded in the darkness of terror in the state have now been witnessing the light of development.

Nation-building is not achieved through big decisions alone, but through the small, honest efforts of millions of citizens, the President emphasised.

“It is a matter of joy that, through the efforts of central and state governments and their own will power, Chhattisgarh’s youth are freeing themselves from the misguided path of Maoism and joining the mainstream,” Murmu said.

This was benefiting not only the youth and their families, but also accelerating the development of Chhattisgarh and India, she maintained.

Addressing the youth, the President said she was confident that if young people embraced humility along with knowledge, ethics with ambition, and a spirit of service with success, the resolve to build a developed India would become stronger.

The youth are the country’s future, and they have a significant role to play in realising the vision of a developed India by 2047, she said, adding it was the collective responsibility of everyone to support, encourage and empower them.

“When we link our individual efforts to collective and national goals, the path to the country’s progress is paved,” Murmu stated.

Urging the youth to dream big, broaden their vision and uphold high standards of conduct, she asked them to nurture a spirit of service towards society, the nation and fellow citizens.

“Whatever work you undertake in life, do it with honesty, dedication and sensitivity. Nation-building is not achieved through big decisions alone, but through the small, honest efforts of millions of citizens,” she insisted.

The President advised young people to move forward in life with four resolutions – to keep learning throughout their lives, face challenges with determination, link their success with social progress, and remain connected to their roots.

Governor Ramen Deka and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai were also present at the event.
