Chandigarh, Oct 22 Punjab BJP president Kewal Singh Dhillon on Thursday lashed out at the AAP government after the first day of the state Assembly session concluded within 10 minutes, alleging that it has “failed miserably” on every front and was “running away from its accountability”.

“The Punjab Assembly session today lasted only eight to ten minutes, during which neither Punjab’s concerns were discussed nor any deliberations were held on the issues facing the state. This has resulted in a waste of public money worth lakhs and crores of rupees,” said Dhillon here.

Following obituary references, Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan adjourned the sitting till Friday on the first day of the Punjab Vidhan Sabha session.

Earlier, the Question Hour, Calling Attention Notices, resolutions and other business were proposed to be taken up after obituary references. The BJP leader said the government would have to answer over the drug menace, gangsterism, extortion and the deteriorating law and order situation.

“The people of Punjab are demanding answers from the AAP government regarding the deaths of Parvinder Singh Jhota, Bikramjit Singh and Gulzar Singh,” he said.

The government employees are on strike, while instead of fulfilling their demands, the government is busy “intimidating and threatening them”, he alleged in a statement.

However, the BJP stands firmly with the employees, he said.

Farmers are struggling in grain markets, drugs are destroying the youth of Punjab, voices raised against drugs are being suppressed, and incidents of firing and murders are occurring almost every day, he charged.

“Yet, the chief minister has no time to spare from his leisure trips, while leaders from Delhi, whom he described as having arrived like plunderers, have been looting Punjab for the past four and a half years,” alleged Dhillon.

The state BJP president said the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) should stop worrying about the BJP and start focusing on Punjab. Given the situation the AAP government has created in the state, the people of the state will no longer tolerate this “incompetent” government, he said.

Dhillon said that Union Home Minister Amit Shah had visited Punjab two days ago and claimed that drugs would be eradicated from the state by December 31, 2029.

He added that the home minister had once again reiterated his commitment to eliminating drugs from Punjab and had also asserted that an NDA government would be formed in the state.

This, Dhillon said, meant that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) would form the government in Punjab.

Dhillon said that the BJP was prepared to contest all 117 assembly constituencies and would enter the electoral fray independently with full preparation.

Earlier, former Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar demanded an impartial investigation into the murder of an Abohar resident whose family held a protest outside the Vidhan Sabha complex here.

The family members were later removed by the Chandigarh police.

Ajay Kumar was shot by an assailant in Sant Nagar in Abohar on September 27. He underwent treatment for several days after sustaining critical injuries but died on October 19 in a hospital in Ludhiana.

His family has been demanding justice in the murder, said Jakhar.
