Pune, Oct 30 A woman allegedly committed suicide along with her six-year-old son by jumping from the 18th floor of a high-rise residential building in Pune district on Friday evening, police said.
The incident occurred at Signature Park society in the Dange Chowk area around 6.30 pm, where Ekta Bhangad (33) and her son Madhav were found lying in the building’s duct area, prompting residents to alert the police, an official said.
According to police, Ekta’s husband, Manoj (35), is an IT professional and the family, hailing from Rajasthan, had been residing on the seventh floor of the building for the past two years.
The official said that CCTV footage from the building showed Ekta and her son taking a lift to the 18th floor, where she removed her footwear, before jumping to death with her son.
The bodies have been shifted to Yashwantrao Chavan Memorial (YCM) Hospital for post-mortem, police said.
A forensic team was called to the spot, and the deceased woman’s relatives were informed, and a probe is underway to ascertain what caused the woman to take the extreme step, senior inspector Vitthal Salunkhe of Wakad police station said.
