New Delhi, Oct 29 The eight-day Shilp Samagam Mela 2026 concluded in Guwahati on Thursday, providing a platform for 75 traditional artisans, including 31 women, to showcase their products and expand market opportunities, the Social Justice Ministry said.

Organised by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment at Farm Gate, Khanapara, the mela featured around 40 varieties of handloom and handicraft products, including Assamese Mekhela Chadar, cane and bamboo craft, block-printed fabrics, embroidery and handloom textiles.

The ministry said the event promoted entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood opportunities for artisans belonging to Scheduled Castes, Other Backward Classes, Safai Mitras and Denotified Tribes.

Secretary Sudhansh Pant visited the stalls and interacted with artisans to understand their skills and market opportunities. He said the initiative aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ and helps artisans achieve economic self-reliance.

The mela also promoted the BHARAT-TULIP initiative to improve artisans’ access to physical markets and e-commerce platforms. A dedicated ministry pavilion showcased welfare, financial assistance and skill development schemes, while cultural performances highlighted the traditions of the North-Eastern region.

The Guwahati edition was the second event in the Shilp Samagam series for 2026-27, following the inaugural edition in Mysuru, Karnataka, which concluded on October 19, the ministry said.
