New Delhi, Oct 29 A 32-year-old man was bludgeoned to death allegedly by his friend during a drunken altercation over an old rivalry and his body was thrown into the Najafgarh drain here with bricks tied to it, police said on Thursday.
Two men, including the victim’s friend, have been arrested within 12 hours of the body being found near Badusarai village on Wednesday evening, they said.
The deceased, Vikram, a resident of Badusarai, had been missing since October 25. His body was spotted by Vijay Bhardwaj, a driver working in Gurugram, while he was returning home from work, officials said.
During the inspection, police found injuries on the right rear side of Vikram’s head, suspected to have been caused by a heavy object. Bricks had also been tied to the body, apparently to keep it submerged in the drain, they said.
The accused have been identified as Sagar, 26, and Parveen alias Bholu, 30, both residents of Badusarai, police said.
According to the investigation, Vikram and Sagar had an old dispute. The two allegedly got into an argument over the issue while under the influence of alcohol, during which Sagar struck Vikram on the head with a brick, killing him, police said.
The accused then allegedly tied bricks to the body and dumped it in the Najafgarh drain to prevent it from floating to the surface, they added.
Vikram’s family had approached Chhawla police station on the evening of October 27 to report him missing, following which an FIR was registered, police said.
A crime team and a forensic science laboratory (FSL) team inspected the spot after the body was recovered. A special team led by the Chhawla station house officer, under the supervision of senior officers, conducted manual and technical investigations, which led to the arrest of the two accused on October 29.
Police are further investigating the motive behind the murder and the individual roles of the accused, officials said.
