Agartala, Oct 29 Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday said his government was keen to implement the Tiprasa accord to address the issues of indigenous people and ensure their overall development.

The Tipra Motha Party (TMP), a part of the BJP-led coalition government in the state, signed the agreement with the Centre and the Tripura government in March 2024 to resolve issues concerning indigenous people, including land and political rights, economic development and language.

“I had a detailed discussion on the Tiprasa accord with Pradyot Debbarma, one of the signatories to the accord on behalf of the TMP, in the presence of Chief Secretary JK Sinha on Wednesday night. The meeting was cordial, and both sides presented their views on the accord,” Saha told reporters.

Asserting that the state government was committed to implementing the agreement, he said both sides would work towards finding a permanent solution to issues concerning indigenous people.

“There will be a meeting in Delhi to find a permanent solution to the issues mentioned in the accord,” he said.

On land rights, Saha said there was no confusion between the two sides, which had agreed to explore all possible measures within the state.

The TMP has been strongly advocating land rights for the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC), which covers around 70 per cent of the state’s geographical area.

Describing his meeting with the chief minister as “productive”, Debbarma said on Wednesday night that the accord would be implemented in a time-bound manner to address all issues, including land rights.

“The meeting was held in a conducive atmosphere with the chief minister and the chief secretary. He (the CM) assured us that the accord would be implemented in a time-bound manner. I hope there will be no harm to either side (tribals and non-tribals), and a new phase of development is set to begin,” he said.

“I quit politics but continue to stand by the cause of the people living in Sixth Schedule areas,” he added.
