New Delhi, Oct 28 Delhi Police has transferred ACP Manasvi Vashistha and Inspector Arun Kumar amid the ongoing standoff between the police and lawyers over an alleged assault on an advocate and a subsequent confrontation at the Shahdara police station, officials said Wednesday.

According to an order issued by the Delhi Police headquarters, Vashistha, who was posted as the ACP (sub-divisional police officer) in Gandhi Nagar, has been transferred to the Special Police Unit for Women and Children (SPUWAC), while Kumar, the SHO of Shahdara police station, has been transferred to the security unit.

The transfers come amid a strike by lawyers demanding action against the police officers responsible for the alleged assault on advocate Lalit Bansal and the subsequent confrontation at the Shahdara police station.

The transfers are being seen as a significant development amid efforts to resolve the impasse between the police and the legal fraternity.

However, it was not immediately clear whether the lawyers would call off their strike following the transfers.

The order directed that both officers be relieved immediately and join their new assignments.
