Bathinda, Oct 28 Punjab BJP general secretary Jewan Garg on Wednesday alleged that the state government had failed to clear electricity dues worth Rs 2,382 crore while spending crores of rupees on hoardings projecting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann as an “honest CM”.

Targeting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government over outstanding electricity bills of government departments, Garg said the dues reflected its financial priorities.

According to reports, government departments owed Rs 2,382.40 crore to the Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) as of the end of July 2026, he said.

“The people of Punjab deserve to know why the government has allowed such a huge amount to accumulate in unpaid electricity bills,” Garg said.

He alleged that while Punjab was facing financial challenges, drug abuse and law-and-order concerns, Mann was enjoying his “birthday trip” to France.

The BJP leader demanded that the government disclose the expenditure incurred on the France visit and explain the tangible benefits it had generated for the state.

He also sought an explanation for the delay in paying electricity bills of government departments and asked what steps were being taken to clear the outstanding dues.

People of Punjab needed solutions to their problems, better public services and financial accountability rather than promotional campaigns and oversized hoardings, Garg said.
