Madhepura, Oct 28 Two undertrial prisoners undergoing treatment at a hospital in Bihar’s Madhepura district escaped from the medical facility, but were arrested within a few hours by the police, officials said.

The prisoners escaped on Tuesday night from the fifth floor of Jan Nayak Karpoori Thakur Medical College and Hospital in the district but were re-arrested from two different locations on Wednesday morning, they said.

“The accused, identified as Mohammad Jugnu alias Mohammad Islam and Mohammad Hasan alias Chhotu, were facing trial in separate cases registered at Shankarpur and Singheshwar police stations,” Madhepura SP Sandeep Kumar Singh said.

After receiving information about the escape, police rushed to the spot and launched a search operation, he said.

Police, acting on a tip-off, apprehended the prisoners on Wednesday, the SP said.

A fresh case has been registered against both accused in connection with the incident, and further legal action is underway, police said.

Disciplinary action is also being initiated against the guards and police personnel deployed at the hospital for alleged negligence, the SP added.
