Aizawl, Oct 28 Mizoram Employment, Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (LESDE) Minister Lalnghinglova Hmar held a series of meetings with senior Union government officials and prospective investors in New Delhi, an official said on Wednesday.

Hmar met Debashree Mukherjee, Secretary, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE) in Delhi on Tuesday, and the two reviewed the implementation of key MSDE schemes in Mizoram, including PM-SETU for upgradation of Industrial Training Institutes and the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY), an Information and Public Relations department statement said.

They discussed ways to strengthen implementation of the schemes in the state and address issues affecting their execution. They also reviewed Mizoram’s proposal to conduct sports training under MSDE schemes, it said.

Hmar stressed the need to integrate sports and skill development, saying the state had submitted a proposal to the Skill Development Ministry in 2024 as sports also involve specialised skills and training.

“With India’s ambition to host the 2036 Olympic Games, training is required not only for athletes but also for coaches,” Hmar was quoted as saying in the statement.

The MSDE secretary said the proposal had been examined and assured that efforts would be made to take it forward within the scope of the ministry’s schemes.

Hmar, who also holds the Sports portfolio, separately met Vineel Krishna, Joint Secretary (Khelo India), Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, and discussed strategies to strengthen selected sports disciplines in Mizoram with potential to yield medals and create greater opportunities for local athletes.

The minister said that Mizoram was pursuing sports development with a clear vision and had established partnerships with the Centre, corporate bodies and the community.

Krishna appreciated the state’s initiatives and said that the ministry had taken note of its “Empowering Mizoram Sports” initiative, the statement said.

Hmar also met representatives of companies and institutions interested in investing in Delhi, where potential investors presented their plans and discussed areas of possible cooperation.

The minister said the proposals would be examined and invited the investors to visit Mizoram and conduct on-ground assessments before finalising their investment plans, the statement said.
