Hoshiarpur (PB), Oct 28 Congress leader Harwinder Singh Sarai on Wednesday took charge as the chairman of Verka Milk Plant in Hoshiarpur again, following a court order.
He resumed charge in the presence of former Punjab cabinet minister and state Congress working president Sangat Singh Gilzian and district Congress president Daljit Singh Gilzian.
Congratulating Sarai, Sangat Singh Gilzian said the court’s intervention had brought relief after the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government allegedly created hurdles in his reinstatement.
Gilzian said Sarai had become chairman of the milk plant in 2021.
After the AAP government came to power in Punjab, Sarai was suspended over complaints without being allowed to present his side, and an AAP leader was appointed in his place, he alleged.
Sarai challenged the suspension before a court, which set aside his suspension and quashed the order appointing a new chairman, Daljit Singh Gilzian said.
He alleged that the state government continued to delay Sarai’s reinstatement for six months despite the court order.
Sarai then approached the Punjab and Haryana High Court, which directed his reinstatement within six weeks and allowed him to resume charge, while setting aside the appointment made by the AAP government, he said.
Sarai assumed charge following directions issued by the Deputy Registrar, he added.
