Aizawl, Oct 28 Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma on Wednesday said his government was fighting corruption through systemic reforms and concrete measures, and urged citizens and government employees to join hands to eliminate malpractice from public life.
Addressing an event to mark Vigilance Awareness Week here, Lalduhoma said the government had introduced a series of reforms to plug loopholes, improve transparency and ensure accountability in public administration.
The measures include biometric attendance for government employees, granting general consent to the CBI to probe corruption cases, expansion of services under the Right to Public Services Act and an online grievance redressal platform, ‘Mipui Aw’.
He said complaints that could be resolved immediately were being addressed without delay.
The chief minister said the government would no longer tolerate irregular contracts or wastage of public money.
Projects had been centralised to prevent duplication and the repeated execution of unviable schemes, while a Project Monitoring Committee comprising selected public representatives had been constituted to monitor implementation and prevent irregularities, he said.
He urged citizens to report substandard works and said the Lokayukta had been strengthened and the Anti-Corruption Bureau better equipped to tackle corruption.
The state government had also renewed its focus on the integrity pact, under which contracts would not be allowed where authorities and applicants had family or other close relationships, he said.
“We are not fighting corruption through words alone. We are introducing new systems and taking concrete action,” Lalduhoma said, stressing that collective efforts were necessary to make the campaign successful.
He also said Mizoram had one of the highest conviction rates in the country, reflecting the performance of its law enforcement agencies, and highlighted the safety of its urban areas for women and children, the state’s positive social environment and rising tourist arrivals.
The CM said the state could make significant progress if corruption is eliminated and urged officials to uphold the highest standards of integrity.
