New Delhi, Oct 27 A mobile app developed by the Delhi government’s DSIIDC now allows advance booking of liquor from retail vends, officials said on Tuesday.

All the same, there will be no home delivery and the buyers must pick up the liquor bottles booked and paid for by them online, within 48 hours, they said.

The advance booking can be done through the Delhi Liquor Booking app of the Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation, or DSIIDC, that operates around 200 retail stores across the city.

There are four corporations in the city which are allowed to sell liquor at retail collectively through more than 700 vends.

Officials said the response to online liquor booking has not been upbeat so far, and its further expansion will depend upon response of the consumers.

One must be at least 25 years to avail the app for booking, and one person is allowed 9 litres of whisky and 18 litres of beer only as per excise rules.

There is no provision for return of sold or picked-up products.

Cancellation of the booked order is allowed before pickup of the purchased bottle, officials said.

DSIIDC is one of four government corporations responsible for retail liquor sales in the capital. The corporation operates 208 liquor outlets, and the online service is extended to its own shops only.

On the app, buyers can browse available brands, select a store, choose bottle sizes and quantities.

Online booking is intended to reduce waiting time at outlets, ease pressure on payment counters and improve transparency in pricing and billing besides providing consumers a chance to choose their favoured drink from a range of options, officials said.

After online booking and payment, the consumers get a booking QR code, which the buyer can scan at the shop to take delivery.
