Hamirpur (HP), Oct 27 Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday inaugurated the Rs 200 crore academic block of Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College in Hamirpur.
He also launched the Allied and Healthcare College in Hamirpur, introducing four courses with a total intake of 210 seats. These include 60 seats in Bachelor of Medical Lab Science, 60 seats in Bachelor of Radiology, 60 seats in Bachelor of Anaesthesia and 30 seats in Dialysis.
Sukhu noted that the first Allied and Healthcare College in the country has been established in Hamirpur. Four courses have been introduced this year, with plans for another four next year. This initiative aims to create new opportunities for students to pursue education and training in the allied healthcare sector, he added.
He emphasised that strengthening allied and healthcare education is crucial for supporting doctors and other medical professionals, ensuring the efficient delivery of modern healthcare services, according to a statement issued here.
Introducing these courses would help develop a skilled workforce to meet the growing requirements of the healthcare sector, he said, adding that the Allied and Healthcare College will expand educational opportunities for aspiring healthcare professionals in the state while contributing to the availability of trained personnel in various specialised fields of healthcare.
Sukhu stated that the newly inaugurated academic block will significantly enhance the institutional infrastructure of Dr Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, allowing for more effective medical education and specialised healthcare services.
It will also provide better access to advanced medical facilities for residents in the region, reducing the need to travel to distant locations for specialised treatment, he added.
The state government is also considering relaxing the bond requirements for doctors pursuing postgraduate medical education, the chief minister said, adding that instead of following traditional methods, the state government is focusing on modern technology and expanding better healthcare services.
He further shared that robotic surgery facilities have been introduced at four medical colleges in the state, and claimed that such facilities are not available in any other hospital in North India.
Additionally, automated laboratories are being set up at every medical college at a cost of around Rs 30 crore each, Sukhu said.
The chief minister urged doctors to improve their behaviour towards patients, emphasising that better healthcare requires not only modern equipment and medical facilities but also a sensitive and patient-centred approach.
Later, the chief minister inaugurated the residence complex of the Himachal Pradesh Rajya Chayan Aayog, constructed at Rs 4.30 crore. He also laid the foundation stones for a Rs 1.50 crore Street Food Park and a Rs 10 crore Child Care Institution in Hamirpur.
