Agartala, Oct 26 Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Monday demanded that Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge tender an unconditional apology to the nation for his remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Kharge sparked controversy at an event in Patna on Sunday when he said, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega” (even Modi’s father will go), in response to an audience member who asserted that the prime minister would not go anywhere.

“The Congress national president’s disgraceful remarks targeting the late father of India’s Prime Minister, Narendra Modi ji, the world’s most popular leader, are unforgivable and utterly condemnable,” Saha said in a social media post.

He said the remarks amounted to an insult to 1.45 billion Indians and exposed the Congress’s “frustration, desperation and ideological bankruptcy”.

“The Congress must immediately take strict action against its chief and tender an unconditional apology to the nation,” Saha said.

Meanwhile, the BJP’s Sadar district committee organised a rally in Agartala to condemn Kharge’s remarks against the prime minister.

Addressing the rally, BJP state vice-president Tapas Bhattacharjee alleged that the Congress leadership had become desperate to oust the BJP-led NDA government by repeatedly targeting Modi.

Claiming that the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) was a “product” of the Congress and Left parties, Bhattacharjee said Kharge’s remarks showed that opposition leaders were restless to regain power by any means.
