Dehradun, Oct 26 Uttarakhand BJP unit staged a protest across the state, burned effigies of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge on Monday and demanded a public apology.
State president and Rajya Sabha MP, Mahendra Bhatt, said Kharge’s remarks reveal the extent of the hatred harboured against Prime Minister Narendra Modi by those who claim to operate on the idea of “mohabbat ki dukaan”.
Kharge sparked controversy on Sunday with his statement, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega”, in response to an audience member who said the prime minister would not go anywhere. The incident occurred during an event in Patna, where the Congress president addressed a programme to mark the 139th birth anniversary of Bihar’s first chief minister, Shrikrishna Singh.
Responding to Kharge’s statement that the Congress would send those involved in alleged irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to jail, someone in the audience shouted that as long as there was no rebellion, Modi would never go anywhere. Kharge retorted, saying, “Modi ka baap bhi jayega.”
In Uttarakhand, BJP workers protested in every district and demanded that both Rahul Gandhi and Kharge issue an immediate, public apology to the prime minister.
Bhatt said Congress leaders have abandoned morality and decorum in public life. “Frustrated by repeated electoral defeats, they have lost all sense of restraint in their language — resorting to using abusive terms against the prime minister’s mother, and now, his father. It is only natural for party workers to be incensed when the national president of a major political party uses such language.
“Consequently, our workers across the country have staged protests today, demanding that the Congress leadership apologise to the prime minister. Such indecent and shameful rhetoric is entirely unacceptable in a democracy,” the BJP leader said.
He said within the entire Congress party, “there is a competitive race to use derogatory language against patriots and those who cherish the ‘Sanatan’ tradition — all in an effort to please their ‘prince’ (yuvraj).
