Thane, Oct 24 Maharashtra Congress chief Harshwardhan Sapkal on Saturday attacked the ruling Mahayuti alliance, claiming a “gang war” among its constituents.

The ruling BJP and Shiv Sena, led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, are driven by political greed and power-sharing rather than public welfare, but will eventually join hands, he claimed.

The Congress leader was speaking to reporters after visiting the family of Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Pradeep Purnekar, who was killed last month in Thane city.

Sapkal said there was a lot of friction between the BJP and its allies, particularly the Shiv Sena, describing it as a “gang war”.

Shiv Sena leaders have pointed fingers at the BJP after Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange released an audio clip purportedly asserting that MP Shrikant Shinde paid Rs 500 crore to him.

The audio clip prompted Sena leader Ramdas Kadam to allege that BJP insiders were colluding with Jarange to politically “finish” Eknath Shinde, the father of Shrikant Shinde.

Sapkal said the public spat between the BJP and Shiv Sena had little to do with addressing citizens’ problems, claiming that the two parties would eventually set aside their differences to pursue their political interests.
