Karachi, Oct 23 Pakistani security forces have killed 10 militants in two separate engagements in Balochistan, including an operation following an attack on a construction company’s worksite in the coastal town of Gwadar, the military said on Friday.

The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), the military’s media wing, said the engagements took place on Thursday in the areas around the Gabd border crossing and Gwadar city. One of those killed was a woman, it said.

According to the ISPR, militants attacked locations in Gwadar in an attempt to disrupt development activities and undermine the state’s authority.

Security forces subsequently launched clearance operations in and around the city, killing 10 militants in two separate engagements.

“By targeting these locations, terrorists sought to harm the very people they claim to represent and wanted to obstruct the development and prosperity of Balochistan,” the ISPR said.

One civilian was killed and several vehicles were damaged during the attacks, it said.

Balochistan, Pakistan’s largest province by area, has witnessed a prolonged insurgency, with separatist groups targeting security forces, government installations and infrastructure projects.

Earlier this week, the ISPR said an army major was killed and four militants were killed during intelligence-based operations in Balochistan.

Pakistan’s Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir said on Friday that the armed forces would continue counterterrorism operations, vowing to “hit them hard wherever they are”.
