Uttarkashi, Oct 21 A 50-year-old woman died of a snakebite on Wednesday morning in Uttarakhand’s Uttarkashi district, police said.

Savitri Devi, a resident of Chobda Tok in Gadth Gram Panchayat, was bitten by a snake on Wednesday morning. Her family members rushed her to Banchaura Primary Health Centre approximately four hours later.

By the time she reached the hospital, her condition had become critical and she died during treatment.

Local BJP leader Shripal Chauhan and former Junior Pramukh Urmila Rangad urged the forest department to provide appropriate compensation to the bereaved family.

In a separate incident on October 18, Janak Singh Sajwan, 53, a resident of Tunalka in the Naugaon development block, went into the forest to cut grass, but he slipped and fell into a deep gorge.

The injured Sajwan was taken to Naugaon Community Health Centre, where doctors declared him dead. A subsequent post-mortem examination revealed that the deceased had sustained severe head injuries.

Dr Rohit Bhandari, the Medical Officer-in-Charge, said Sajwan was already dead upon arrival at the hospital, and the post-mortem report confirmed severe head injuries.
