Lucknow, Oct 16 Uttar Pradesh governor Anandiben Patel on Friday emphasised the need to make healthcare accessible to all sections of society, saying transparency and trust are important in medical services.
Patel inaugurated the Lapetos Healthcare Super Speciality Hospital in the Awadh Vihar Yojana area here. According to a Jan Bhavan statement, she appreciated the hospital’s objectives and its commitment to social service. The governor said hospitals should not only provide medical services but also fulfil their social responsibilities to ensure that economically weaker families have access to better healthcare facilities.
“Transparency and trust are the most important aspects of healthcare services. The quality of medicines must be ensured, and necessary arrangements should be in place to check counterfeit medicines,” Patel said.
Emphasising the need for ethical, patient-centric medical care, Patel said protecting animal life is as important as safeguarding human life. She said doctors should understand a patient’s illness correctly and provide appropriate treatment, adding that patients should not be burdened with unnecessary tests, medicines, or other expenses.
She said sensitivity, ethics, and transparency in medical services would help strengthen patients’ trust.
Referring to a school she adopted in Lucknow, the governor urged the hospital management to visit rural schools and initiate free healthcare services for children from underprivileged families.
She said she wanted to convene a meeting of all private hospitals and healthcare centres in the state at Jan Bhavan to discuss collective initiatives under their corporate social responsibility programmes.
Patel said every institution should consider adopting villages and working to provide free healthcare facilities to children in need.
