New Delhi, Oct 16 Traffic restrictions will be in place in south Delhi’s Chittaranjan Park and Greater Kailash-II areas from 4 pm to midnight daily between October 16 and 20 in view of Durga Puja celebrations, the Delhi Traffic Police said in an advisory.
A large number of devotees and visitors from Delhi and neighbouring areas are expected to visit the puja pandals, which are located in residential colonies with limited road space and no dedicated parking facilities for visitors, it said.
Private vehicles belonging to visitors and devotees will not be allowed to enter the C R Park and Greater Kailash-II areas during the restriction hours, the advisory said, warning of traffic congestion on major roads in south Delhi.
The affected stretches include the Outer Ring Road between Vasant Vihar and Modi Mill flyover, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg near C R Park, and August Kranti Marg between Ring Road and Outer Ring Road.
Traffic movement is also likely to be affected on Mehrauli-Badarpur Road between Khanpur and Jamia Hamdard, Guru Ravidas Marg between DDA Flats in Kalkaji and Jamia Hamdard, and Lal Bahadur Shastri Marg between Khanpur and Chirag Delhi flyover.
Commuters may also face congestion on Josip Broz Tito Marg between Chirag Delhi flyover and Moolchand flyover, as well as on internal roads around C R Park and Greater Kailash-II, the police said.
The traffic police have advised devotees and visitors to use the Delhi Metro to reach the puja pandals and avoid parking-related difficulties. Taxi and auto-rickshaw passengers can use Greater Kailash and Nehru Enclave Metro stations as drop-off points and proceed to the venues on foot.
The advisory also cautioned commuters against parking vehicles on roads, footpaths or near the pandals. Vehicles found parked illegally or obstructing traffic will be towed away and prosecuted as per law, it said.
Visitors have been advised to start their journeys early, allow extra travel time, follow directions issued by traffic personnel and avoid the affected corridors unless necessary.
The traffic police appealed to commuters to plan their journeys in advance and cooperate with personnel deployed in the area to ensure smooth traffic movement during the celebrations.
