Jamnagar, Oct 21 US Ambassador to India Sergio Gor on Wednesday said his country has become India’s largest LPG supplier as he accompanied Secretary of State Marco Rubio during his visit to Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL)’s mega refinery complex at Jamnagar in Gujarat.

Rubio, on a three-day visit to India, and Gor were welcomed at the complex by the Mukesh Ambani family.

Gor highlighted a sharp rise in India’s imports of American LPG and RIL’s planned investment in a new oil refinery in the United States.

Gor, in a post on X, said he was honoured to join Rubio at the Jamnagar facilities of Reliance Industries headed by Mukesh Ambani.

“Over the past year, India’s imports of US LPG have surged from under 10% to 67%, making the United States India’s largest LPG supplier,” he said.

Gor further said “Reliance’s planned investment in the first new US oil refinery in 50 years is another major opportunity to expand American energy production and create jobs.”

The Ambassador shared a photograph of Rubio and Reliance Industries Executive Director Anant Ambani at the refinery complex.

Rubio arrived in Jamnagar from Mumbai a day after describing India as a crude oil refining “superpower” and advocating for processing more Venezuelan crude in the country.

The US Secretary of State is on an India visit, his second trip in five months, to advance bilateral ties in energy, trade and investment, defence and critical technologies, besides exchanging views on the West Asia crisis.

Rubio arrived in Mumbai on Tuesday, where External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar hosted him for wide-ranging talks on bilateral cooperation. During the talks, Rubio urged India to scale up energy trade with the US and increase purchases of American technologies and defence systems.

According to Reliance Industries’ website, its Jamnagar refinery is the “largest and most complex single-site refinery in the world”, with a crude processing capacity of 1.4 million barrels per day and a complexity index of 21.1.

The company says the refinery has processed more than 216 grades of crude oil from around the world.

The complex houses major industrial units, including Fluidised Catalytic Cracker, Coker, Alkylation, Paraxylene, Polypropylene, Refinery Off-Gas Cracker and Petcoke gasification plants.
