Jaipur, Oct 16 More than 4.80 lakh applications were received for inclusion of names in electoral rolls in Rajasthan under a special voter registration drive launched on October 1, officials said.
Chief Electoral Officer Naveen Mahajan said 4,80,893 Form 6 applications for inclusion of names were received till October 14, including 2,67,946 from people aged 18-19 years and 2,12,947 from those aged 20 years and above.
The campaign, being conducted on the Election Commission’s directions, aims to enrol eligible first-time voters and other citizens whose names are not included in the electoral rolls.
Mahajan said electoral literacy clubs, booth-level officers, electoral registration officers and SVEEP teams were working together to spread awareness and facilitate voter registration.
SVEEP, or Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation, is the flagship voter education programme of the Election Commission.
CEO Mahajan said special efforts are being made in schools and colleges to encourage eligible young people to register as voters.
The objective is to ensure that no eligible citizen is left out of the electoral rolls, he said.
